Would you like your skin to look smoother and lifted but without having surgery? Perhaps you are looking for a long-lasting way to add volume to your skin and boost your circulation? A PDO thread lift might be the solution you’ve been looking for.
A PDO thread lift is a contouring and rejuvenation treatment, where PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are introduced beneath the surface of your skin to improve its appearance for 18 to 24 months. By introducing a safe foreign body into the layers of your skin – PDO threads are commonly used for surgical stitches – your body responds by creating collagen, which adds volume to your skin and stimulates better circulation, giving your skin elasticity and naturally eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.
Over six months, the biodegradable PDO thread gradually breaks down and is absorbed and eliminated by your body, leaving no trace other than younger looking, firmer skin.

How does a PDO thread lift work?
During a PDO thread lift, we introduce PDO (Polydioxanone) threads into various levels of your skin using a very fine needle to lift your tissue and muscle, and improve your skin texture. Your face will have a more lifted appearance immediately after your treatment and you will notice an ongoing improvement over the following days and weeks as more collagen is made.
After this treatment, your overall skin texture will be thicker, tighter and firmer, with fine lines and wrinkles smoothed away. PDO thread has been widely used for decades for surgical stitches because it is strong and biodegradable, so it will break down over time without any intervention.
Research has shown that PDO relaxes muscle and tendons, which helps to smooth away some of the fine lines and wrinkles on your face, while your body responds to the presence of a foreign body by creating new collagen. PDO also stimulates the production of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, both of which keep it looking plump, youthful and hydrated.
What areas can a PDO thread lift be used to treat?
A PDO thread lift is particularly effective for the face and neck. Lines and wrinkles such as forehead wrinkles, lowered outer eyebrows, cheeks, smile lines, marionette lines, and a jowly jaw line can all be dramatically improved with this procedure.
Our skilled aesthetic practitioner, registered general nurse and independent nurse prescriber, Yuliya Culley, has also created exceptional results using the PDO thread lift to smooth furrows and wrinkles on the neck and cleavage, as well as firming and shaping breasts, buttocks, bellies, arms and legs.
What should I expect from the treatment?
Before your treatment, we may need to inject local anaesthetic into the treatment area to help you feel as comfortable as possible. The PDO thread is then introduced into your skin using a micro-needle. The procedure typically takes 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated.
There is very little downtime after this procedure, although your skin may feel slightly swollen and bruised for a couple of days afterwards. PDO thread lifts can be combined with other treatments such as Botox wrinkle reducing injections, fillers and PRP.
You will see an improvement immediately after your treatment but the real changes will be evident about 10 to 14 days later as your body begins to make collagen. You should continue to see the results for up to two years.
Is a PDO thread lift safe?
PDO thread lifts have an exceptional safety record and complications are extremely rare. You may experience some temporary swelling and bruising but this should resolve within a couple of days. Occasionally, people feel a slight tightness or pulling sensation, which subsides over a few weeks.
Polydioxanone has been used in surgery for several decades because it is biodegradable and unlikely to cause fever or infection.
What do I need to do after my PDO thread lift treatment?
We will give you clear aftercare instructions when you attend the clinic for a thread lift. You may experience slight swelling, bruising and redness for a couple of days after your treatment but this can be covered with a good mineral make-up. Recovery times are usually less than one week, but you should avoid strenuous exercise for two to three weeks.
